Holcomb and Huffaker are about to become more dangerous. Support safe streets for all.
The area is about to get 100 more homes near this highly used corridor. Tell your local City Councilmembers and Regional Transportation Commissioners that we need to protect lives by installing bike paths and protected shared-use paths.

I write to you today to ask for new bike lanes and a shared use path on Lakeside Drive to Holcomb Ranch Lane to South Virginia Street and Huffaker Lane to Del Monte Lane.
A bicycle and car crash involving critical injuries occurred on the intersection of Lakeside Drive and Lone Tree in south west Reno on October 28, 2024 requiring the cyclist to go by ambulance to the hospital. Usually 10 or more bicyclist use Lakeside Drive south of Windy Hill daily and a least 20 use it on the weekends. Lakeside Drive is State Route 671 with a 35 mile an our speed limit. Drivers have to drive over the yellow dividing line while passing a cyclist. This is dangerous and it is about to get more dangerous!
There are two new housing developments planned near us that will increase the car traffic on Lakeside Drive. Lakeside Estates will have 78 custom homes. It will be on the intersection of Lombardi Road and Holcomb Ranch Lane. The other new development called Glenhaven, with land for 24 houses is on Foothill Road. This will greatly increase traffic on Lakeside Drive and Holcomb Ranch Lane.
Both streets were recently paved. Now they need to include a marked bicycle lane on both sides of the street AND a shared-use 2 way path on one side of the street. This would allow people to safely walk or run as well as ride bicycles in both directions. Currently, there are no areas for pedestrians to walk or run along the entire route! We have recently had one serious accident due to lack of a bike lane. Please help us avoid another serious accident. Installing safe bike and pedestrian lanes would help enhance the reputation of Reno as a bicycle friendly city. Bicycle lanes would not only benefit the people of the Truckee Meadows, but would encourage bicycle tourists to vacation here.
Please make our streets safe for all users.
