In Nevada, 31% of fatal bike accidents occur at intersections and crashes with bikes are up 55%. Rules of the road should serve ALL road users - not just be written for drivers. Please support the Stop-As-Yield (AB168) by Assemblywoman Heather Goulding to improve safety, health, support small business, and increase local quality of life in every Nevada community.
Improving public safety is a concern for drivers and vulnerable road users alike. The Safety Stop is law is in effect in over 9 states with a proven 40-year record of improving safety at intersections in rural and urban areas by reducing crashes with bikes by 23% in some states in the first year. It is also supported by the National Traffic Highway Administration
By supporting the Stop-As-Yield, you are taking an important step in a number of efforts to reduce transportation costs for taxpayers. Safety is the first step in creating a network of connected and protected bicycle lanes that are safe and comfortable for all ages and abilities. People from 8 to 80 who want to get out of their cars deserve a safe and cost effective way to get around town but are likely too hesitant to risk their lives bicycling in our current disconnected network. I ask you for your support to:
Support Safety Stop legislation
Work with local transportation officials to study, design, and construct networks of protected bicycle lanes and paths statewide.
Dedicate local funding towards Vision Zero Pilot Project program which targets high-impact / low-cost transportation safety improvements in Nevada.
Amend state law to dedicate a portion fuel tax funding for transportation projects that support biking, walking, and transit.
Collaborate with the Nevada DOT to ensure Build Back Better Funds go to transportation projects that support biking, walking, and transit.
I support the Nevada Bicycle Coalition's efforts to encourage governments to use public funds and laws to lower transportation costs for Nevadans.
